Why the job search is difficult for international students
Why the job search is difficult for international students
This is part one of a three-blog series exploring what it’s like to find work as an international early-career employee.“Do you require sponsorship now or in the future?” We’ve all had to answer this question on a job application. If you answer yes, there’s a good chance the company will discard your application. If you answer no but do require sponsorship, you’ll be lying. But you might get the job. This simple question has terrified thousands of international students across the United States, including myself—a Burmese early-career professional who lived in Myanmar my entire life. Many companies in the US don’t have the resources or willingness to bring in international early-career talent, which means fewer work opportunities for people in my shoes.Let’s explore why that is and its impact on international students.Societal and time constraintsBhavana S., a third-year student majoring in business and communications at Northeastern University, took a leap of faith as an international student from India by applying to the LIKE.TG co-op program. She was accepted and works on the Americas campaigns team, helping to drive and grow the company’s integrated global marketing campaigns.Unlike LIKE.TG, a lot of companies "were not willing to give me a chance from the very beginning,” Bhavana says, due to her name’s implication that she’s not a US citizen. Once a company saw that she was from India and would need sponsorship to work, the system the company used to filter job applications might automatically kick her out of the process.“LIKE.TG didn’t judge me before getting to know me,” she shares. Dena R., an employee communications and engagement co-op at LIKE.TG, faced similar challenges in her job search. As a Thai citizen, Dena, like other internationals, has 12 months to work in the US during her college years. This time restriction means international students must be selective and careful with the work experiences they pursue. Dena searched with the “hope that the six-month co-op I chose would lead to more open doors in the future,” she says. This same sentiment applies to thousands of international students seeking job opportunities each year. The importance of inclusion“There are companies out there, like LIKE.TG, that value your unique talents and don't discriminate or look past internationals,” Bhavana points out. Despite having fewer opportunities than her peers as an international student, she was able to stay positive because of that—and people in her life who believed in her and were willing to advocate on her behalf. LIKE.TG’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and belonging is what caught Dena’s eye during her job search. She discovered LIKE.TG’s multiple Belonging Groups and hoped she would one day get to meet the leaders of the Asian and Pacific Islander at Now community. “I knew instantly that I wanted to work at a place where everyone is welcomed and celebrated,” she says. After joining LIKE.TG, Dena got her wish. “The API members greeted me with open arms,” she adds.Professional developmentThe six-month work experience at LIKE.TG has helped both Bhavana and Dena develop their leadership skills. It’s also paved the way for their personal growth. Find out more about that personal and professional growth in the next blog in this series. We’re hiring. Explore early careers at ServiceNow.
Why we adopted Microsoft Teams—and what others can learn from it
Why we adopted Microsoft Teams—and what others can learn from it
Collaboration apps, such as Microsoft Teams, have become critical during the pandemic because they enable employees to stay connected and engaged while they work. Just how critical?Microsoft reported 270 million Teams users in January 2022, up from 75 million in April 2020, a few weeks into the pandemic, according to ZDNet. Teams and similar apps have proven essential to the remote workplace.LIKE.TG is one of the companies benefiting from Teams adoption. Teams isn’t just an app to bridge the pandemic; it’s a valuable part of our strategy to enhance employee engagement and productivity. As we shape the future of work, whether employees are in the office or remote, we want to provide the tools to stay connected.Empowering employeesFrom their first day, employees need to access files and complete tasks from anywhere and from any device. With many different systems and platforms available, employees can benefit from a unified and consistent experience.Microsoft Teams provides a vital link to complement our employee productivity portfolio of tools, improve efficiency, and simplify processes. It natively integrates with software LIKE.TG already uses: Office 365, OneDrive, and CRM Dynamics. But implementation wasn’t enough. Communication and education were also key to successful adoption. We couldn’t expect employees to wholeheartedly embrace Teams without assistance. We had to determine: How do we educate employees to use the platform? What are the benefits for each particular job? How do we support employees when they have questions? How do we motivate employees who are hesitant? 4 keys to a smooth rolloutWith these questions in mind, we planned a phased rollout by leadership function. We learned four main lessons during our transition:1. Communicate the how and whySpending time and effort to prepare employees for the change was vital to gaining broad support and buy-in. We didn’t want to catch our employees off guard. That meant developing an employee communications strategy for before, during, and after the rollout. We defined the transition to Teams and emphasized how new features could help save time and reduce frustration. We made sure employees understood the change, why we were doing it, the impact, timelines, and the resources available to help them.2. Tap the expertsWe talked to other organizations that had undergone this process to learn from their mistakes. After listening to the feedback of early adopters, we adjusted our plans to fit our culture. Many employees had used Teams at previous employers; we encouraged them to share their knowledge and champion the switch. Hands-on tips and tricks were invaluable in helping employees transition to the new platform and take advantage of all the new capabilities.3. Amp up the knowledge exchangeTo help bridge any gaps and support a smooth transition, it’s important to encourage employees to get comfortable with Microsoft Teams early. We did this by making information—such as Microsoft Teams searchable content, live user training, and a self-help site—available in all the places employees go for help: our employee portal, Virtual Agent, knowledge base, internal portals, and the mobile app. Setting up multiple support methods enabled employees to get answers to their questions fast. We used email and internal portal posts to alert employees of upcoming changes, avoiding surprises. This type of knowledge sharing prepared employees for success.4. Get leadership buy-inIf employees don’t use the platform, the organization won’t benefit from it. Adoption needs to be championed from the top down.We made sure our chief information officer understood the rollout strategy and the value the technology would deliver so he could advocate for it with other senior leaders. That included defining expectations: Individual leaders would lead by example, endorse the switch, and discourage shadow IT. During the transition process, IT provided consistent guidance to build trust that Teams would be the preferred solution.Seamless adoptionWithin three months, we achieved 100% adoption on Teams and decommissioned our previous tool for all employees. Today, 97% of employees are active on Teams weekly.“Teams adoption within LIKE.TG has opened up new ways of collaborating across global functions and time zones,” says Mirza Baig, senior director of IT Service Management at ServiceNow. “Because information can be shared easily and quickly, Teams supports our culture of making work better for our employees.”The world of work is changing, and we’re adapting along the way, embracing other features in our employee experience with Teams. It’s just one tool in our tool belt to digitally transform our business by helping employees remain engaged and productive well into the future.Find out more in our Making hybrid work, work for you ebook.Take a deeper dive into how LIKE.TG uses its own products.©2022 LIKE.TG, Inc. Why Wellness Benefits Are Crucial for Employees Beyond COVID-19
Why Wellness Benefits Are Crucial for Employees Beyond COVID-19
Wellness refers to being in a state of good health. This is often composed of multiple types of health, including both physical and mental. With companies, your employee wellness — their state of health in the workplace — is affected by factors both within and outside of work. Balancing personal life and work-life has long been a subject of concern for many workers, but with remote work on the rise, there is a mentality shift to work-life integration. Work-life integration requires companies to offer flexible schedules and additional wellness benefits as part of their employee programs. These benefits are designed to improve overall wellness in life and bridge the gap between personal life and work life, which are so often treated as separate entities. The idea is to improve a person’s overall health so every aspect of that person’s life can also benefit. For employers, the goal of implementing employee wellness programs is to have happier and healthier people, which can have the added benefit of positively impacting work performance. Though, the end goal should be to simply take care of the health of your fellow human beings. According to a recent FinanceBuzz health and wellness benefits survey, 54% of surveyed workers with access to employer-sponsored wellness programs reported improved mental health in the last year. Compare this to workers without access to these programs, and only 22% said the same thing. The data is significant, but what specific wellness benefits are most useful for employees and worth your consideration? Types of wellness benefits The FinanceBuzz survey mentioned above found a range of wellness benefits that were popular among employees. These included: Healthy meal kit delivery Mental health counseling Gym membership reimbursements Weight loss programs Smoking cessation programs Fitness tracker devices Virtual workout subscriptions Meditation or yoga membership/subscriptions Reimbursements for smart home gym equipment Many of these popular perks focus on ways to improve physical wellness, such as healthy eating or exercising. If a person feels better physically, it’s often easier to approach challenges and adjust to changes in life. This doesn’t mean a person no longer gets stressed out, but stress becomes more manageable. However, it’s important to note that you have other options to promote workplace health and wellness. Mental health counseling and other benefits designed to help alleviate some of life’s worries can be invaluable for employees. This could include wellness benefits that focus on how to cope with financial stress. According to a Mind Over Money Study from Capital One, 58% of Americans feel that finances control their life. Whether you know it or not, many of your employees are likely experiencing some sort of financial stress. This type of stress might wear on their mental health. To help combat this stress, consider offering finance-related wellness benefits. Here are a few types of benefits you might want to think about: A group life insurance plan that’s free or affordable for employees and doesn’t have strict requirements, such as passing a medical exam. Health insurance coverage that aligns with your employees’ wants and needs. This could include more coverage options nationwide, low mental health counseling costs, and a variety of plans to choose from. A 401(k) plan to help employees plan for retirement. It can be helpful to simply have access to a retirement plan, but the best employee benefits programs often include employer contributions. Seeing your company put money toward your financial future, other than your salary, can go a long way in fostering a caring and supportive environment. If you need help with creating these programs, reach out to employee benefits providers. Flexible paid time off policies gives employees the time they need to recharge and reset. Burnout and mental exhaustion are real and all too common among the workforce, especially in the changing environment brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Wellness benefits and remote employees In the past year, companies have found a need to review and revamp their employee wellness programs. In many cases, this was brought on by the massive changes resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. Specifically, millions of office employees became remote workers virtually overnight. Certain wellness benefits, such as paid group lunches and in-person gym memberships, suddenly weren’t as relevant. But what wellness initiatives for remote employees are actually valuable? Consider the unique challenges a remote worker faces. They have many of the same general stressors as office employees, such as worries about physical health, mental health, and financial wellbeing. So the wellness benefits mentioned above are useful, but there’s still room for extra help. Remote workers often suffer from a sense of being disconnected, especially if they aren’t used to working remotely. A FinanceBuzz remote work survey found that 49% of remote workers found it harder to build relationships with co-workers, and 46% reported feeling isolated. Wellness benefits for remote workers should focus on providing remote employees with opportunities for meaningful connections and conversations with other people. This could include wellness activities with co-workers and virtual meetings with health coaches or counselors. HR mistakes impact your entire organization. Learn how to avoid the 12 most common mistakes with our free ebook. Download now A push for permanency Reacting to a global pandemic may not be the most positive reason to introduce wellness benefits to your company, but it’s better than not having them at all. However, it’s important to continue advocating for adjustments to your employee wellness program even if things start to normalize worldwide as we enter a post-pandemic era. The point of wellness benefits is to create a lasting positive impact on your employees and their lives. It would be challenging to make this kind of impression if the benefits were temporary and only available during the pandemic. That’s why it’s necessary to make helpful and valuable wellness benefits a permanent part of your business. Some remote workers have already returned to the office, and others may be in the process of doing so. But that may not be the case for everyone. You or your company could still be managing a virtual team years down the road, many of whom would likely be grateful for employer-sponsored wellness benefits that positively affect their lives daily. The bottom line A quality benefits program isn’t just designed to make employees happier so that the business can make more money. Instead, these programs exist to make people happier and healthier so they can have more fulfilling lives. If your company grows and becomes more valuable as a result, that’s an added bonus. Keep in mind that certain wellness benefits aren’t always the best options for each company. Each company is different and has employees with unique needs. If you want to find out what would work best for your company, get to know the people who work there. Why Workforce Management is Essential For High-Performing Businesses
Why Workforce Management is Essential For High-Performing Businesses
The modern workplace has undergone significant changes over the past years. Take the impact of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic as an example. Quarantines and stay-at-home orders forced companies to adopt remote working. Access to technologies and digitalization made the process a little smoother. But, the HR department had to learn and adapt new strategies to manage employees. Yet, that is not the only challenge facing HR. The modern workplace is fast-paced and ever-evolving. The teams must overcome recruiting hurdles, workforce management including engagement and development. The solution to most of the challenges lies in workforce management. But what does it mean? Exploring Workforce Management Workforce management is any system that helps with the efficient running of the company. It is a broad term that covers much more than just the people. Any system or process that contributes falls under workforce management. So why is it an important topic worthy of discussion? Well, the employees are critical to the success of any company. Proper management of such resources is an important priority for many companies. You know the phrase ‘happy wife/spouse, happy house’ Well, allow us to put a twist on it to read, ‘happy employees, happy employer.’ Now, what happens in a, well, happy work environment? The one answer is higher productivity, which is a win-win for everyone. As you can imagine, a lot goes into the process. But, we can always look to technology to provide a solution. Forward-looking companies use workforce management software to assist with different tasks. HR gets help with:- Team scheduling without the use of a spreadsheet. Automation helps with handling workloads, staff availability, vacations, and absences. Clear overview of team workloads Easy assigning of activities resulting in better aligning and prioritization of work Better assigning of responsibilities so no one is over or underworked Centralization of all activities on one dashboard. The result is better planning, management, and monitoring of work processes. Better communication with quick access to data Data security and privacy in compliance with general data protection regulations. Automation of tasks results in greater efficiency and time-saving. The company can operate with a lean HR team without compromising productivity. Let's look at why workforce management is critical for business success. 1. Better Employee Experiences Workforce management removes any confusion. Every employee has clarity on job expectations. There is clear communication across the teams. Higher transparency will boost employee morale. It is a fantastic way to show the company cares about them. There is also better aligning of processes with workforce management software. When employees know their roles, there is higher engagement with the work. HR can also be more proactive in how they deal with the staff. All of these result in a better work environment, thus better employee experiences. The right workforce management software will help with employee performance management. Measuring factors like employee engagement give excellent insights. The company will, for instance, know what needs to change to increase productivity. 2. Support for Remote Workers Flexible work environments are the new norm for employers and employees alike. At the outbreak of the pandemic, there wasn't much choice. State enforcement of stay-at-home orders made it necessary. Yet, with the opening of the economy, many people still prefer to work from home. Indeed, even employers have no problem with the new model. A 2021 study shows that up to 70% of companies plan to maintain remote working. 58% of employees would rather continue working from home. 97% of workers are willing to adopt a hybrid work model. This does not call for a full-time physical presence in an office. HR has to overcome the challenge of managing employees wherever they are. Workforce management software brings efficiency to the process. Tasks like those we have highlighted above are easy with the right tools. HR can, for example, track employee performance without face-to-face interaction. They can also generate forecasts to guide as KPIs. The software will also ease communication, so everyone is up to date. 3. Better Recruit Experiences With Candidate Relationship Management Systems Recruiting is a major HR challenge. Finding the right candidates can be very difficult. The talent pool is small. Yet, competition for people with the right skill sets is high. Investing in candidate relationship management systems makes it easy to overcome this hurdle. The tools help with improving and managing current and potential candidate relationships. Better communication enhances engagement and candidate experiences. The company becomes more attractive to talent. Thus, it will always have a ready pool willing to join. 4. Workforce Management to Gain a Competitive Edge As we stated, workforce management systems allow for streamlining activities and processes. The organization can adapt to developments or new trends. Data insights help in sound decision-making around critical issues. The ability to forecast and plan for long-term changes means the company is always ahead. It reduces vulnerabilities that could arise from sudden changes in the labor market. But that's not all. Some critical Workforce management elements can change the way you do business. These include:- Labor force forecasting uses data to predict future developments and staffing needs. Take the example of peak seasons for the business. With proper forecasting, the company can know beforehand how many people to hire at such a time. The information is critical for budgeting and workload allocation, depending on demand. Scheduling for proper distribution of work to the available staff. It helps in streamlining activities. You will always have the right people handling the right tasks at any given time. Even in times of market changes, the company can adapt. Take the example of a sudden increase in demand. Data-driven insights help with the allocation of the right skill sets to specific tasks. Capacity or workload-to-work force matching to determine staffing capacity. It takes into consideration budget cycles, ad hoc projects, vacations, and absenteeism. In this way, the company can better plan work with the available resources. Traffic management takes into consideration supply and demand. The company can deal with discrepancies arising from resource shifts or staff availability. Final Thoughts Workforce management is critical for the smooth operation of the company. This is because it takes care of the most valuable resources. That is the people, process, and systems. There is better communication, streamlining of activities, and workload balancing. Further, automation increases efficiency, thus higher productivity Author Bio: This article is written by our marketing team at LIKE.TG. Why You Need an ATS in Your Recruitment Process
Why You Need an ATS in Your Recruitment Process
Finding and hiring top talent in today's competitive employment market can be challenging. The number of people applying to each open position has grown tremendously in recent years as firms have expanded to accommodate rising demand. That’s why you need an effective and streamlined recruitment process to manage the influx of applications and swiftly find the top applicants. And ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is there to help you. Take a look at what our ATS solution has to offer to you. In this article, we'll discuss the importance of an ATS in the hiring process, as well as the advantages it may offer your company. Want to Improve YourCompany Culture Find out what type of company cultureis right for you. Try It Now Increased Efficiency and Time Savings The huge time and effort savings offered by using an ATS should be one of the key motivating factors for implementing one into your recruitment process. Processing resumes and applications by hand is a laborious and error-prone process. Luckily, the manual labor involved in screening and sifting resumes is eliminated by an ATS automated system. Recruiters can quickly and efficiently find qualified applicants that meet their needs by searching and narrowing their results based on a variety of factors. Improved Candidate Screening and Selection Effectively identifying the best candidates for open positions is made much simpler with the help of an applicant tracking system. An applicant tracking system allows you to create role-specific parameters and keywords. You can rest assured that you will only be shown resumes from individuals that meet your specified criteria because the system will do the heavy lifting for you. The time spent on assessing ineligible candidates is cut down, and the likelihood of discovering a suitable candidate is boosted, thanks to this function. Centralized Database and Simple Information Access Having to keep tabs on and get details about a big number of candidates is a major time sink. A candidate's details can be stored in one convenient location with the use of an ATS consolidated database. Candidate information such as profiles, resumes, interview notes, and evaluations are all easily accessible. During the selection process, recruiters have easy access to accurate and up-to-date information on potential candidates. Enhanced Communication and Collaboration Successful recruitment requires open lines of communication and teamwork. ATS helps facilitate the interaction between recruiters, HR, and candidates. All stakeholders involved in the hiring process can be kept in the loop with the use of automated email answers, interview scheduling, and candidate status updates. By facilitating better dialogue, the applicant experience is boosted and the company brand is strengthened. Compliance and Reporting Today's regulatory climate highlights the importance of adhering to all applicable hiring laws and regulations. By providing consistent procedures and records, an ATS can assist with compliance management. Fair recruiting procedures, including a commitment to equal opportunity and the safe storage of sensitive candidate data, are guaranteed with ATS. In addition, an ATS may produce reports and statistics, giving you more insights into the efficiency of your recruitment process and pinpointing opportunities for development. Cost Savings While the expense to implement an ATS may seem high at first, the long-term benefits may be well worth it. An ATS can help save time and money in the recruitment process by automating manual operations, decreasing the amount of time spent on administrative tasks, and increasing overall efficiency. It helps make better hiring decisions and improves selection capabilities, decreasing the likelihood of expensive erroneous hires. Using ATS in conjunction with LinkedIn Tools LinkedIn, the largest professional network in the world, offers a number of useful tools that may be used along with an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) to further improve your hiring procedures. Key methods to use LinkedIn's products in tandem with your applicant tracking system are outlined below: Posting jobs is a breeze — If your applicant tracking system (ATS) is integrated with LinkedIn, you can post available positions straight to your company profile and any relevant LinkedIn groups. Improved candidate sourcing — LinkedIn's enormous professional network yields a large pool of prospective employees. When you connect your applicant tracking system (ATS) with LinkedIn, you may easily import candidate profiles into your ATS. Getting better insights — Combining your ATS with LinkedIn's Talent Insights will provide you access to more in-depth information about your candidates. Additionally, you can also use LinkedIn management tools to add tags and notes and get a better overview of your network. With this synergy, you can select the best possible candidates with confidence. Streamlined candidate application — Applications from applicants who use LinkedIn's Easy Apply function can be sent directly to your applicant tracking system (ATS), saving you time. Enhanced candidate engagement — Using LinkedIn's InMail tool, you may contact applicants directly, even if they aren't currently looking for a job change. You can keep tabs on and organize all of your communications with potential hires without ever leaving your applicant tracking system. This simplifies things by keeping track of every interaction with applicants in one central location. Employer branding and candidate experience — The Company Page and Career Pages on LinkedIn are potent resources for promoting your employer brand and attracting top talent. Technology is still largely perceived as a boys’ club. Although we’ve come a long way to increase female representation and move away from outdated stereotypes, we haven’t come far enough. You don’t have to look far to see examples of prejudice or inequality in action. When interviewing for another company, I felt disclosing any potential family plans would negatively impact the interview—and my career prospects. It’s 2023. No woman should have to feel like that. That’s why I’m proud to work for a company that’s recognized as one of the Fortune 100 Best Large Workplaces for Women and a champion for women and girls through partnerships such as Girls Who Code and PowerToFly.Resolving the wrongsSandee Curtis, technical consultant, EMEAMy experience in the tech sector has been generally positive, but there have been challenges. Through most of my career, I have been the only woman in the room. This isn’t just lonely. It’s also counterproductive to progress. It’s a lot harder to speak up and say, “Something isn’t right here,” when you’re the only woman on a team, living in fear of being labeled a troublemaker. What’s more, we know more diverse teams lead to better outcomes. Equity is a win-win.That’s why it’s vital that any healthy workspace ensures no one is penalized for being who they are. From my perspective, that’s something LIKE.TG believes in too. As employees, we’re regularly encouraged to get involved in belonging groups such as Women at LIKE.TG and Families at ServiceNow.I facilitated a panel session on “breaking the bias” that discussed the human stories behind inequality. People were extremely engaged because we didn’t just talk about what’s wrong. We examined what the wrongs mean and how we can resolve them. We need more of that.Building an inclusive cultureMaeve O’Reily, senior talent acquisition partner, EMEAI want everyone to know they’re welcome at ServiceNow. A huge part of our culture is supporting everybody, including women, to live their best life, do their best work, and fulfil our purpose together. This starts with inclusive hiring. We’re constantly working to eliminate unconscious biases, ensure diverse interview panels, and seek talent from a wide variety of talent pools. This resonates across the entire organization, as evidenced by our RiseUp with LIKE.TG program and our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report. Our internal workplace communication platform provides access for everyone to join belonging groups and communities as a member or an ally. This helps foster a sense of belonging, making LIKE.TG a respectful, open, and safe place to work.Balancing motherhood and workIliyana Stareva, chief of staff to the EMEA presidentIt’s great to see society starting to break free of the lies we’ve been told about balancing motherhood and work—that it’s impossible, that women should stay home with their children, and that your career has to end when you have children. However, there’s more work to be done. Women still face challenges when it comes to maternity, childcare, and flexible working policies. It’s extremely important for me, as a mother, to work for a company that prioritizes equity in this area. That’s what LIKE.TG does, which is why it was named one of the Best Workplaces for Parents by Great Place To Work. Across the business, caregivers understand we won’t be penalized for taking time off when we need to. Our work will be seen and valued whenever, and wherever, we get it done.We recently launched the Families at LIKE.TG Belonging Group, which gives parents and caregivers an extensive support network. It also hosts events such as Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. It’s a fun group and a great way to show parents in the company they’re just as valuable as anyone else.Prioritizing actions over wordsAna Galindo, Mediterranean senior marketing managerI never wanted to join a company that made a lot of statements about feminism without doing much. Nor did I want to join a company that ignored the role of allies when it comes to equal treatment. I vote for equity and diversity, and I say yes for women, yes for men, and yes for any person.International Women's Day is not just about women. It’s also about men fighting for equality. We are equal, and we should have the same opportunities and respect. We should have the same ability to participate in projects, promotions, and positions. LIKE.TG has an open environment where everybody is respected. This makes the world work better for us as employees.I always wanted to work for a company that values me as an individual, a woman, and a mother. LIKE.TG provides all employees with a number of well-being days. These are extra days off to do whatever we please, whether that’s spending time with family, catching up on life admin, or simply relaxing. This is a real company taking care of me.Find out more about LIKE.TG Employee Belonging Groups and our inclusive employee culture. Work life should be like real life
Work life should be like real life
C.J. Desai: Work life should be like real lifeAs chief product officer, my job is not just to lead great innovations but to ask philosophical questions, such as: “What actually is work?” Is it a thing you show up for and measure in hours, or is it a passion you pursue and measure in the outcomes you deliver for your customers? We rarely say, “work was GREAT today.” That’s because great moments at work are pretty rare. Why is it so easy to update a shopping list linked to a grocery delivery service in your personal life, while at work you might find yourself standing outside a conference room arguing over who reserved the room?LIKE.TG exists to make work, work better for people so that our customers can eliminate manual tasks and do more strategic and satisfying work. This week at our Knowledge® 2019 conference in Las Vegas, we will be sharing our product roadmap, demonstrating future innovations, and showing how LIKE.TG is redefining the future of work with digital workflows.Bring consumer experiences to workWe’ve grown used to great mobile experiences for shopping, socializing, banking and much more. Work is different. A simple, easy, intuitive mobile experience for the enterprise doesn’t yet exist. At LIKE.TG, we’re developing high-quality, more human mobile experiences for work. We’re tackling some of the most common work processes, and making them simple, easy and intuitive to do from anywhere. This is all new.We designed Now Mobile to help employees get work done, solve problems and search for information on-the-go. Now Mobile is designed to allow employees to complete day-to-day work tasks like requesting a new laptop, opening an HR ticket or searching for the holiday calendar, all from the palm of their hand. Employees will be able to get work done with the most-used features on their phones, such as the camera, GPS, microphone, QR code scanner and more. Employees will finally be able work in the same way they use consumer apps to shop, hail rides, and stay in touch with distant friends. Now Mobile is designed to include any workflow running on the Now Platform®, helping our customers to manage and update the app without writing a single line of code. The Now Platform puts the power of app development in the hands of the business, so that IT, HR and other departments will be able to manage Now Mobile more efficiently and spend their time on projects that make work better for their colleagues.Create a great onboarding experienceStarting a new job is never easy. Getting your laptop from IT, your benefits from HR, your desk from facilities is complex, time consuming and frustrating. For the first time, we will be showing Mobile Onboarding, which is designed to give employees a consumer-grade mobile experience before they even step through the door at a new job. The app is designed to allow employees to set up payroll, select the type of computer they will use, and more--all from an intelligent and intuitive app. Simple on the surface, Mobile Onboarding is designed to connect separate HR, Finance, and IT systems and hide the complexity from the user. This is the future of work.Say “hello” to Siri ShortcutsIn your personal life, how often does Siri help you search for information or contact a friend? Most of us never think about asking Siri to help at work. Now, you can have a quick chat with Siri wherever you are to take care of a complex work task. Let’s say you just received an urgent request from your boss. She needs a summary of all first-tier support tickets from the past week, but you are out of the office, only have your phone with you and are about to step into a meeting. No problem: “Hey Siri, open ServiceNow. Create a report of tier 1 support incidents since Monday and email it to Yvonne Jones at Acme Corporation.” Your boss gets what she needs within minutes. Simple, easy, game-changing.Work just got better, didn’t it?This simple experience actually runs on a complex set of digital workflows. Our new Natural Language Understanding technology paired with our new Siri Shortcuts and Google Assistant integrations are designed to translate the voice input to text and determine intent. New Natural Language Query capabilities are designed to use that intent to generate the SQL code necessary to create and send the report, all managed by our Virtual Agent enterprise chatbot solution. The client gets what she needs in minutes and work continues to get better, right? The best service is no serviceCompanies increasingly rely on IT to update and maintain digital services for everything from email to payroll to software testing. We are introducing new workspaces and capabilities designed to help IT serve employees, customers and partners. We are enhancing Agent Workspace with more intelligence to handle tedious, repetitive processes, so IT agents can focus on more strategic, value-added work. We are building the voice, Virtual Agent and NLU capabilities I mentioned earlier to work within Agent Workspace, enabling employees to self-serve with request creation from within Virtual Agent and automatic subscription to services based on specific requests. With Service Owner Workspace, service owners gain a single interface for complete visibility into the real-time performance of all of the IT services and offerings they provide. Knowledge workers are empowered to act quickly, correctly and confidently – even under stressful situations – to take action on near-term solutions. Service Owner Workspace aims to inform service owners with all the information they need to make smart long-term service investment decisions.Operator Workspace is designed to help IT optimize digital services and prioritize where to focus operations efforts with a holistic view of application and service health. Operators can manage a large number of services, resources and distributed operations and scale processes to keep up with demand to add services at a rapid pace. These innovations will make work better for IT agents, service owners and operators.Meet LIKE.TG Finance Operations ManagementThe month-end close process is one of the most tedious, time-consuming processes in a company. Today, most finance teams rely on manual methods when they are closing their books. They use legacy tools that don’t speak with or connect to each other.Onstage today at Knowledge 2019, we will show the LIKE.TG® Finance Operations Management product and its first application - Finance Close Automation – which is built for the office of the CFO. The Finance Close Automation app is a natural extension of our workflows and platform capabilities. As a complement to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, Finance Close Automation is designed to help finance and accounting teams digitize their workflows to reduce finance close risk, improve team satisfaction, and accelerate the financial close process. The idea for Finance Close Automation was conceived by our former Corporate Controller, Amir Jafari, when he envisioned harnessing the power of the Now Platform to improve our manual finance close process. Amir led a team that began innovating the Finance Close Automation app; this team paved the way for NowX, our internal group focused on developing new concepts for products. We invested in his idea and Finance Close Automation is the inaugural product coming to market from NowX. Today, we use the application for our own quarter- and year-end close processes, and Amir now leads the new business unit responsible for Finance Operations Management.PayPal, a global technology platform and digital payments leader, is an early adopter of the Finance Close Automation application and has already seen positive results. “The LIKE.TG Finance Close Automation app is an innovative new solution that brings together all aspects of the finance close process, enabling simplification, transparency, better controls and greater efficiency,” said Aaron Anderson, PayPal’s Chief Accounting Officer and Vice President. “With its entry into the finance arena, we believe LIKE.TG will make a meaningful impact on finance departments across industries.”Deloitte, the lead launch partner for LIKE.TG’s Finance Operations Management, shares a passion for infusing innovation and accelerating operational efficiencies. “Working with LIKE.TG, we’re helping clients drive digital transformation across their organizations. We are particularly excited to help mutual clients like PayPal realize the potential of enterprise service transformation by extending workflow capabilities to the finance close process,” said April Slovensky, Principal, Deloitte Consulting LLPThis is the power of digital workflows.Great moments at work don’t have to be so rare. The Now Platform is the not-so-secret sauce that allows us to deliver experiences that make getting stuff done at work more like our personal lives. The innovations mentioned above, and more, are expected to be rolled out over the next year in our upcoming New York and Orlando platform releases. By addressing head-on the friction we feel at work, the Now Platform takes care of the work you have to do so you can focus on the work you want to do. That’s delivering onour purpose of making the world of work, work better for people. The future of work just might be great and it starts now.Use of Forward‑Looking StatementsThis blog post contains “forward‑looking statements” regarding our product roadmap and future innovations and product releases, including but not limited to statements that include words such as expects, intends, aims or similar words conveying that the information is not historical fact. Work-study program offers high schoolers a start in tech
Work-study program offers high schoolers a start in tech
Investing in the future of the tech industry is a high priority for ServiceNow. That’s why we’ve partnered with Cristo Rey San Jose Jesuit High School’s Corporate Work Study Program since 2020. The school is on a mission to empower students from underserved communities in Silicon Valley to be spiritual, academic, and professional leaders.“Cristo Rey is the only high school in the South [San Francisco] Bay area that offers a work-study program where students can get real-world experience in a corporate setting and work with industry leaders during the academic year and as part of their curriculum,” says Silvia Scandar Mahan, president and CEO of the school. In our first year of the work-study program, we brought four students onto the LIKE.TG campus. This academic year, we’re excited to offer work-study opportunities to 25 students—the most hosted by any participating company.Work-study students get a chance to work at our Santa Clara, California, headquarters one day a week, network with industry leaders across various business units, and learn how to succeed in a corporate setting—all before some even have their driver’s licenses.
Workflow Digitization Relies on Bold Goals, CEOs & Employee Support
Workflow Digitization Relies on Bold Goals, CEOs & Employee Support
CIOs are advancing workflow digitization by identifying big goals, leaning on CEOs for support, and showing peers how much employees love itInterviews with more than a dozen CIOs from around the world reveal that workflow digitization has become an organization-wide priority, but succeeding requires more than understanding the technology.CIOs say that they need a seat at the table, the full support of their CEO, and a clear strategy for reporting the impact on employees.Listen to the Workflow Quarterly podcast to learn more. Here are a few quotes from several CIOs: Lori Beer, CIO, JPMorgan:“This is the first time when I got this appointment little more than a year ago that the CIO was actually part of the firm’s operating committee…I aligned the vision and the mission of delivering of technology very clearly to the strategic objectives of the company.” Douglas Blackwell, CIO, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield:“I was actually presenting to the customer advisory board for some of our very large national accounts. I think years ago that probably wouldn’t have happened. The CIOs tended to be focused more on the back end of the business as opposed to the front end. So now it’s all about customers and sales and thinking that way.” Helmuth Ludwig, CIO, Siemens:“My personal conviction is if you want to go as a company through a digital transformation, it can only be driven by the CEOs of the businesses, and this has to be supported by the CIOs.”

Workflow Quarterly: Data to Power Better Decisions
Workflow Quarterly: Data to Power Better Decisions
Billy Bean called it the Oakland A’s “lifeblood.” Time Berners-Lee, founder of the World Wide Web, called it “a precious thing.”Data is the key to turning an idea into a plan. For a business leader, data is the evidence that builds one’s credibility and enables stronger decision-making. Yet, too often, executives take action on gut instinct and experience. While those are two powerful tools, will they be enough to answer tough questions from your employees, CEO or board? That’s why LIKE.TG has launched Workflow Quarterly , a publication dedicated to providing business executives with research-led investigations into the use and impact of workflow digitization. Each quarter, we will publish insights from top journalists and thought leaders to empower smarter, evidence-based decisions on how to invest in technology and what to expect from those commitments. In the Spring issue, Tom Davenport , the world’s most often cited researcher in the business information systems field, reports on the value of digital workflows, based on 23 interviews with IT executives and two independent surveys conducted by Lawless Research. One survey asked 6477 full-time employees who work with some sort of technology each day about how process automation has affected their work life and goals. Respondents live in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Singapore, the U.K. and U.S. A second survey of 812 U.S.-based IT executives offered another perspective of the same trends.Together, this powerful set of data provides some valuable insights. For instance:· Company: The companies with more widespread work process automation were 2.7 times more likely than those from other companies to report revenues higher than competitors 80% of employees in highly-automated companies say work process automation boosts productivity vs 59% in highly-manual companies.· Customer: 72% of employees polled in highly-automated companies said digital workflows increase the satisfaction of their customers 76% said it improves the organization’s competitiveness.· Employee: 82% of employees polled in highly-automated companies say work process automation simplifies their work processes vs 64% in highly-manual firms 74% of employees in the more automated companies said work process automation improves job satisfaction vs 53% in highly-manual companies 72% said it increases time for creativity vs 54%.Watch Tom Davenport talk about his report here . Workflowing a better world
Workflowing a better world
I’m a big believer in leaving things better than I found them. I apply that mentality to work, home, and all the places in between. This planet is pretty remarkable, as are the approximately 7.6 billion people who share it. So, it’s no surprise that I want to play a part and create lasting change that leaves our world more sustainable, more equitable, and more ethical for everyone. We know that doing well as a business is about more than growing profits. That’s why today, I’m thrilled and honored to share LIKE.TG’s first annual Global Impact Report 2021 and highlight some of the ways we’re committed to positively impacting our planet, each other, and the communities we serve. Our big threeThe year 2020 was a year like no other. We lived through unparalleled experiences that forever changed the way we think, live, and work. I believe such profound change provides tremendous opportunity to bring our company together and harness our business reach and the power of the Now Platform®. Embracing these opportunities is part and parcel of our company’s DNA, and the art of the possible energizes me.Guided by our global impact vision to workflow a better world, we’re committed to creating impact and changing the way the world works by focusing on three key pillars: Sustaining our planet by championing a resource-efficient, net-zero carbon environment Creating equitable opportunity by making work more equitable, accessible, and rewarding for all people Acting with integrity by building trust through ethical, transparent, and secure business practices Rising to the challengeThe pandemic created some of the greatest workflow challenges of our generation, and LIKE.TG has been able to use the power of the Now Platform to digitize solutions for these unprecedented times. When the world changed before our eyes in early 2020, we introduced our COVID-19 Emergency Response apps, which helped organizations respond to the challenges presented by the pandemic. We followed that up with our Safe Workplace Suite of applications to help organizations gauge workforce and workplace readiness to prepare for employees’ return to the workplace. This year, we launched our Vaccine Administration Management solution to address vaccine management challenges at scale by removing logistical barriers to speed up the immunization process—helping healthcare providers and state and local governments vaccinate their citizens and keep them healthy and safe.Using existing LIKE.TG® solutions or building their own applications on the Now Platform, customers and communities are workflowing their way through significant challenges and opening new opportunities. I dare say, collectively, we’re helping to workflow a better world and, in turn, making the world work better. Our path to a healthier planetIn honor of Earth Day, I had the opportunity to participate in a panel and was inspired by our employees’ enthusiasm and innovative spirit as they shared stories of how they’re contributing to protecting our planet.I was eager to share my own story about Meatless Mondays at our house. Did you know that by skipping meat just one day a week, Americans could save an estimated 100 billion gallons of water each year? It’s amazing how the tiny, everyday changes we make can have such an incredible impact on the environment. While LIKE.TG’s environmental efforts are relatively new and we’re early in our reporting journey, we’re developing long-term plans for our priority environmental issues, including climate and energy, sustainable procurement, and waste.Using science as our guide, we’ve laid the groundwork to achieve our goals, focusing on increasing energy efficiency in our datacenters and offices, sourcing less carbon-intensive materials for our operations, and traveling more sustainably. We believe our work will have a multiplier effect—as we develop and implement sustainable workflow solutions in our operations, we’ll make them available to our customers to do the same. All in on creating equitable opportunity for allThe future of work must mean more opportunities for more people. Everyone has a right to belong, to participate, and to reach their full potential. Companies have a critical role to play in helping to build a more inclusive world. This includes improving diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIBs) and keeping employees safe, supported, and engaged; closing the digital skills gap to enhance the talent pipeline; and making the future of work more accessible and rewarding for everyone. Here are a couple of examples of how we’re addressing some of the world’s most urgent social needs: Our three-year, $1.5 million partnership with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is raising awareness of the urgent issue of student hunger and supporting the delivery of 1 million nutritious meals annually for students and families in need. The LIKE.TG Racial Equity Fund, a $100 million fund aimed at reducing the wealth gap and expanding opportunities for individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and business owners in Black communities, is facilitating sustainable wealth creation through homeownership, entrepreneurship, and neighborhood revitalization. I’m also thrilled to report that we have achieved systematic pay equity for our global employees. Because pay equity is so dynamic, especially in a high-growth company like ours, we manage it on an ongoing basis and do regular analyses and adjustments. This approach has led us to achieve systematic pay equity company-wide and ensures we maintain that pay equity on an ongoing basis.Trust is paramount to you and usWe’ve pledged to build on the trust we’ve established over our 17-year history and to lead with transparency and disclosure in all we do. We aim to provide the utmost data security and privacy, foster ethical use of data, and ensure business continuity for ourselves and our customers.Delivering customer success has always been one of our core values. As caretakers of our customers’ data, we established a Data Ethics Council in 2020, comprised of senior executives from IT, data security and privacy, AI, and legal, to discuss new and innovative uses of data that are consistent with our values and review current data privacy and security issues. Now the real work beginsWe’ve identified our environmental, social, and governance priority issues, developed our global impact strategy, set ambitious goals, published our inaugural Global Impact Report, and built a governance model to guide us in this work.We know that when we bring our whole company together—uniting our collective expertise, Now Platform and market-leading workflows, broad industry partnerships, commitment to community engagement, resources, and purpose-driven culture—the impact we can create for our employees, customers, shareholders, and communities is infinite. With the foundational work done, we’re inspired and dreaming big about what the future holds.Read our Global Impact Report.
Workforce and demand for tech workers to grow with rise of AI
Workforce and demand for tech workers to grow with rise of AI
When generative AI (GenAI) burst into public consciousness after the November 2022 launch of ChatGPT, it sent shock waves through every corner of the business world. Leaders wondered what it would mean for their workforce, and employees worried their jobs would be taken away.Today, some of the dust has settled and more data is in. The headline: While disruption is on the horizon, so is opportunity.Except in Japan and Germany, the workforce will grow—a lot—amid the rise of AI, according to our Impact AI: 2024 Workforce Skills Forecast. LIKE.TG partnered with research expert Pearson to identify: Which tasks will be completed entirely by AI Which tasks will be assisted by AI Which roles and skills will grow in demand How leaders can reskill their workforce to future-proof their business Our research involved developing and deploying AI-driven algorithms that combed massive troves of publicly available labor market data across Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Singapore, the UK, and the U.S.Here’s what we learned about how to prepare your organization for the seismic impact emerging technologies will have on the workplace. We need more people in the workforceIn India, we forecast demand for an additional 34 million workers in the next five years to sustain an estimated 6.3% yearly economic growth. In the U.S., a modest annual GDP increase of 2.1% will require an additional 1 million people in the workforce. The takeaway is that even with some jobs being automated away and many tasks made more efficient by the use of AI, we’ll still experience a global labor shortage. In fact, the productivity gains from emerging technologies will prevent this worker deficit from being more extreme.Tech workers remain in high demandAlmost across the board, the research forecasts rising demand for most tech roles. In the U.S., we found that, with one exception (document management specialists), the need for skilled tech workers will increase over the next five years.
